Deacue Fields, Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology professor and chair at Auburn, has accepted a position as dean of the University of Arkansas’s Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences and will assume that role in mid-May.
Fields joined the Auburn College of Agriculture faculty in 2002 as an assistant professor and Extension economist. He was promoted to associate professor in 2007 and professor and chair in 2013.
In his four years as department chair, Fields completed a comprehensive academic program review, facilitated a 31.5 percent increase in departmental extramural funding, secured the department’s first equipment grant, developed a departmental strategic plan, facilitated a process to revise and adopt departmental bylaws and supervised an undergraduate enrollment increase of 59 percent.
“I am proud of all that Dr. Fields has accomplished in his time at Auburn, including his department’s record enrollment, extramural funding and alumni engagement,” said Auburn College of Agriculture Dean Paul Patterson. “I wish him the greatest success with this exciting opportunity and look forward to hearing about the advancements he makes for Arkansas.”
