An Auburn University associate professor and a department chair soon to join the Auburn family were honored in November by the USDA’s Association of Public and Land-grant Universities’ annual meeting in New Orleans. The USDA presented two of its six Excellence in College and University Teaching in Food and Agricultural Sciences Awards to Alan Wilson, an associate professor in Auburn’s School of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences, and Joshua Duke, soon to move to Auburn as chair of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology.
Duke currently serves as a professor of applied economics and legal studies at the University of Delaware. He will join Auburn as a department chair March 1.
“We are proud for Drs. Wilson and Duke for their accomplishments in the classroom, and we are proud for what this means for the success of their students,” said Paul Patterson, dean of the Auburn University College of Agriculture. “Universities like Auburn improve people’s lives in many ways through groundbreaking research and scholarship, but that all starts with excellent teachers.”
The USDA’s excellence in teaching awards program generates nominations across a broad spectrum of disciplines in agriculture, natural resources, veterinary science and human sciences. Nominees are evaluated for their success in teaching, use of innovative teaching methods, service to students and their profession, and scholarship.
The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities is a research, policy and advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening and advancing the work of public universities in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The organization includes 238 public research universities, land-grant institutions, state university systems and affiliated organizations.
