Beck earns two awards for academic advising excellence

Mallory Beck, academic advisor for the Auburn University College of Agriculture’s Department of Animal Sciences, recently received two awards recognizing her excellence in her profession.

Beck received the Outstanding New Advisor Award from the Provost’s Office’s 2025 Academic Advising Awards. This award honors an advisor with less than three years of service to Auburn’s advising community who has engaged students in the collaborative process of advising and had a significant impact on students’ academic careers.

She and the other honorees will be recognized Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the annual awards ceremony.

Additionally, Beck is the recipient of the New Advisor Award from NACADA: the Global Community for Academic Advising, Southeast Region 4. She and her fellow recipients will be recognized at the regional conference in Jacksonville, Florida, in April.

Beck joined the College of Agriculture as an advisor in February 2023. She’s made significant contributions as an advisor for both the College of Agriculture’s Peer Mentors program and the Collegiate Cattlemen and CattleWomen Association.

“Mallory truly represents the core values of Academic Advising — she’s caring, inclusive, professional, respectful and dedicated to over 250 College of Agriculture students, meeting with each one individually every semester,” said her colleague Ashley Aston, academic advisor for the Department of Agricultural Economics & Rural Sociology. “Even with such a large group, she makes it look easy, balancing advising, teaching a class, and working on other projects that support Auburn students.

“Her passion for agriculture and improving the student experience makes her an exceptional advisor and a huge asset to the College of Agriculture.”

As a two-time Auburn graduate (Bachelor of Arts in public administration and Master of Education in higher education administration), Beck’s advising philosophy emphasizes providing comprehensive support for all students through campus-wide relationships and resources, including Camp War Eagle and S.O.S.

“I am really conscious about my accessibility and being available for students at all times,” she said. “I have also been very intentional about meeting people across campus. I want to be able to connect students with a person rather than just an office phone number or email. I have also found a passion for the College of Agriculture and animal science, specifically.”

Beck’s dedication to fostering student success is evident through her commitment to creating a supportive and enriching environment for all students.

“I graduated from a larger college within Auburn, so my advising experience as a student was very different from the College of Ag,” Beck said. “My advisor had a huge caseload, and I felt like I was just a student ID number and a checked box when it came to my advising as an undergraduate student. I am very intentional with my advising now because I don’t want students to feel that way. I love Auburn and the College of Agriculture so much that I want each and every student to have the best student experience possible.”
