Sushil Adhikari will serve as the Auburn University College of Agriculture’s interim associate dean for research and interim associate director of the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station, effective Feb. 16. He replaces Arthur Appel, who stepped into the role of interim dean of the College of Agriculture and interim director of the Experiment Station Jan. 1.
“Dr. Adhikari’s extensive research activities and leadership experience at Auburn make him an excellent fit for this role,” Appel said. “He is highly regarded for his scholarship, and he is well respected among Auburn faculty and stakeholders. I look forward to working with him as he leads our research programming.”
Adhikari has been a faculty member in the Department of Biosystems Engineering since 2008. He served as interim head of the department from August 2016 to April 2017, and he has served as director of the Center for Bioenergy and Bioproducts since September 2017.
Throughout his time at Auburn, Adhikari has received many awards and honors for his research and scholarship, including Stanford University’s List of the World’s Top 2% Scientists in 2020, 2022 and 2023.
”I am excited to serve the College of Agriculture (COA) and Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station (AAES), and I look forward to working with faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders that are touched by COA and AAES.”
Adhikari earned his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Tribhuvan University in Nepal, a master’s degree in energy technology from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand and a Ph.D. in biological engineering from Mississippi State University.
