Graduate student receives Elanco award for exceptional seminar

Kate Meloche, a graduate student in poultry science, was recently presented with the fall 2014 Elanco Graduate Seminar Scholar Award for her presentation “Wooden breast: A novel myopathy of the Pectoralis major in broiler chickens.”

The Elanco Graduate Seminar Scholar Award was established to recognize excellence on the part of graduate students who present as part of the Department of Poultry Science’s Graduate Seminar series. Each semester, all poultry or food science students who present at the seminar are eligible for the award. The award includes $500, made possible through a donation from Elanco Animal Health.

Meloche is pursuing her Ph.D. in poultry science under the advisement of Dr. William Dozier. Her nutrition research has focused on meat myopathies and has included innovative research methods and customized technology to gather data. Her research has been widely praised by Auburn’s poultry science faculty and has been presented at numerous poultry conferences and meetings.
