Guertal receives TOCA award for column series in Golf Course Management magazine

Elizabeth Guertal, a professor in turfgrass and nutrient management, received a merit award from the Turf and Ornamental Communicators Association last week for her column series, Verdure. Her column appears monthly in Golf Course Management magazine.

Guertal’s was one of 15 TOCA awards received by Golf Course Management, a publication of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. Her award was presented in the category of Writing for Commercial Publications, Series of Columns by Regular Department Columnist.

Guertal has taught in Auburn University’s Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences since 1993. Her research program centers on environmental turfgrass management – more specifically, fertilizer management and the environmental consequences of applied fertilizer.

She also conducts work in the areas of turfgrass cultivar evaluation, fertilizer response trials and sports turf management evaluations.
