Innocent Okuku, a key player in a movement to bring about a “green revolution” in sub-Saharan Africa, will present a visiting scholar seminar at Auburn University Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 11:45 a.m.in Comer Hall, room 109. The presentation, “Global Food Security Challenges and Opportunities and the Role of Public-Private Partnerships: An African Perspective,” is sponsored by the Office of Global Programs in the College of Agriculture.
Okuku is head of Commercial Services for Notore Chemical Industries PLC in Nigeria, one of Africa’s top fertilizer companies and the sub-Saharan’s only producer of urea fertilizer. A major component of Notore’s African Green Revolution campaign involves educating farmers about best farming practices and the benefits of fertilization in an effort to help them operate more productively and profitably. Okuku’s responsibilities include overseeing the development of these farmer education strategies.
He holds a Ph.D. in crop science. He is in the U.S. visiting the International Fertilizer Development Center in Muscle Shoals.
The Auburn seminar is free and open to all. Lunch will be provided for the first 25 attendees. For more information, contact Elizabeth Scarborough, mew0071@auburn.edu or 334-844-3210.
