From the Alabama Beef Cattle Improvement Association
The Alabama Beef Cattle Improvement Association (BCIA) recently named the 2015 recipient of the Outstanding Extension Educator at the 73rd Annual Alabama Cattleman’s Convention in Birmingham.
Alabama BCIA recognized Lisa Kriese-Anderson, Extension animal scientist and associate professor in the Auburn University Department of Animal Sciences and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Her discipline is beef cattle breeding and genetics. The Outstanding Extension Educator Award is presented to recognize and honor an exceptional extension educator and their support and implementation of beef cattle performance programs in Alabama.
Kriese-Anderson serves as the priority program team leader for the Extension Animal Science and Forages team. She is a co-coordinator for the North Alabama Bull Evaluation Center and supports many BCIA marketing events annually. She tabulates and analyzes BCIA commercial record keeping data annually and serves on the BCIA board of directors.
Kriese-Anderson serves as an instructor for the BCIA Seedstock Continuing Education Program, the Master Cattlemen’s Program in the area of genetics, Better Beef Basics and for Practical Ranch Management Workshops. She provides producer training on the techniques of bull selection and crossbreeding.
Kriese-Anderson is also leader in many youth educational programs throughout Alabama. She lends her expertise to programs such as the state 4-H Livestock Skill-a-thon, the state Beef Quiz Bowl and the Alabama Junior Beef Expo. She also provides leadership in many roles within the Auburn Animal Science Department, such as the Auburn Quadrathalon Team, Auburn Block and Bridle Club and Ag Discovery Adventure.
The Alabama BCIA is a non-profit organization seeking to promote, educate and facilitate the use of performance data, record keeping and marketing opportunities to improve the Alabama cattle industry. Formed in 1964, BCIA cooperates with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System of Auburn University under a formal agreement.
