Study Abroad Fellowship Guidelines

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS

Must be a student majoring in the College of Agriculture or Biosystems Engineering, having achieved at least sophomore standing, have a cumulative GPA of 2.75, be a U.S. citizen (or permanent US resident, i.e., green card holder), and must be committed to enrollment for at least one additional semester beyond their study abroad trip to apply for the Study Abroad Fellowship.

The College of Agriculture will award fellowships, based on available funding, to support College of Agriculture students participating in study abroad programs or other international experiences related to food, agriculture, and environmental sciences.

*Please note: Students can only receive the Study Abroad Fellowship once during their academic career at Auburn University.

Application deadlines are November 5 and March 5 each year. The application opens about two months prior to the deadline. All COA students will receive an email with instructions.

Applications will be reviewed by representatives from the Office of Global Programs and Student Services.

REVIEW CRITERIA

In addition to the “Student Requirements” outlined above, eligibility for the Study Abroad Fellowship is limited to students majoring in the College of Agriculture or Biosystems Engineering who are participating in study abroad programs developed and led by Auburn University faculty. Preference will be given to students enrolled in a College of Agriculture faculty-led experience and to those with a higher cumulative GPA. To receive funding, students must earn academic credit for their study abroad trip (except for the Orr Trip), and a course approval form from the Auburn Study Abroad Office will be required prior to disbursement.

FELLOWSHIP AWARDS

Funds from the Study Abroad Fellowship will be deposited directly into the student’s Bursar account. Awards are issued once the student provides proof of commitment to the program, such as an airline ticket receipt and confirmation of a “committed” status from the Auburn Study Abroad Office system. Fellowship funds will be disbursed during the semester in which the program abroad occurs.

Funding Amount

The College of Agriculture will award fellowships contingent on available funding, with the goal of providing a minimum award of $500 for each eligible student participant.

SUMMARY PRESENTATION

Successful applicants are expected to share their experiences with other students during the semester following their trip.  This can be accomplished through presenting a seminar, writing blog posts for the college’s study abroad blog, or speaking to student groups or classes.
