Williams named head of Department of Horticulture
Auburn University professor Dave Williams has been selected as head of the Department of Horticulture, effective Feb. 1, Dean and Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station Director Bill Batchelor has announced.
“Dr. Williams brings to this position extensive experience in both teaching and administration,” Batchelor said. “He is known throughout the College of Agriculture for his leadership qualities and his passion for students. These characteristics, with his depth of experience in our college, make him an excellent fit as department head.”
Williams has served at Auburn since 1991, starting as an assistant professor and Extension horticulture specialist. He currently serves as the Elbert A. and Barbara L. Botts Endowed Professor in the Department of Horticulture. From 2006 to 2012, Williams served as department head in horticulture as well as two years as interim associate dean for instruction.
“I am honored to have been selected for this position and believe it will be an exciting time to lead our horticulture department,” Williams said. “This department has an excellent heritage at Auburn. I look forward to working with our faculty, staff, students, alumni and industry partners to build on this heritage and to position the department for even greater success in the years ahead.”
Williams is a graduate of the Department of Horticulture, earning both his B.S. and M.S. degrees at Auburn. He received his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 1991.
