2015 Beef Cattle Conference set for Aug. 8 at Auburn

Auburn University’s Department of Animal Sciences will host¬†the 2015 Beef Cattle Conference Saturday, Aug. 8, at Ham Wilson Livestock Arena and other campus facilities. This year‚Äôs one-day conference will follow the theme “Practical Concepts for the Cow-Calf Producer” and aims to support the viability and long-term sustainability of animal agriculture in Alabama and the Southeast. ¬†The program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The morning sessions will feature a back-to-basics approach, with speakers addressing nutrition, breeding and animal health, while the afternoon presentations will cover research in the areas of forage production and utilization, residual feed intake and efficiency and meat safety and security. Updates on current issues critical to beef producers also will be included. 

The conference planning committee is comprised of¬†Auburn animal sciences faculty and representatives of Alabama’s beef cattle community.

¬†“Our departmental mission is about helping producers be more successful now and in the future, because our livestock and animal industries contribute substantially to the state’s economy and the well-being of Alabamians,” said Wayne Greene, Department of Animal Sciences professor and head. “We have planned the program to inform¬†producers about¬†research going on in the department as it relates to the beef industry in Alabama and regionally. “

The research that will be presented is supported by the College of Agriculture, the Alabama Agriculture Experiment Station and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.

Cost of the conference is $50 per person for those registering before July 20 and $100 after that date.
