Short Bio

Sudhanshu Kumar is a Ph.D. candidate in Earth System Science (interdisciplinary) at Auburn University, specializing in hydroclimate extremes, soil moisture dynamics, flash droughts, and the application of artificial intelligence to Earth system science. His research focuses on developing scalable deep learning and causal discovery frameworks for drought monitoring, prediction, and land–atmosphere interactions. He has authored and co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, with research spanning flash drought predictability, marine heatwaves, and machine learning for hydrological applications. Sudhanshu has presented his work at major international conferences, including American Geophysical Union and European Geosciences Union annual meetings, and has received several awards and fellowships for his research contributions. In addition to research, he is actively involved in mentoring, teaching, peer review, and scientific leadership within the climate and hydrology community.
