Short Bio

I began my career as the cotton and soybean research agronomist at the LSU-Northeast Research Center, where I focused on irrigation, crop rotations, plant diseases, and conducted variety trials. In 2002, I accepted a position with Bayer CropScience as a cotton breeder in Leland, Mississippi.

In 2006, I had the opportunity to return to Texas as a cotton breeder and assistant professor with Texas A&M University in College Station. I progressed through the academic ranks from assistant to associate and then full professor. During my tenure, I served on the Faculty Senate and chaired the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences caucus. I was honored to be named a Fellow of both the American Society of Agronomy and the Crop Science Society of America. I also led education and research programs in Mexico and Azerbaijan, and served as the major advisor for 30 graduate students — many of whom are now plant breeders, professors, business owners, USDA program leaders, and public school teachers. In 2022, I was appointed director of the undergraduate research office at Texas A&M, where I supported students across campus working on projects ranging from human diseases and engineering novel energy sources to interpretive dance and animal health.

In July 2023, I joined Auburn University as Head of the Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences. I now lead a department with strong programs in plant breeding, weed science, soil health, precision agriculture, turfgrass, and water resources where we focus on supporting agriculture and protecting the natural resources in Alabama.
