Research

“The SEED is where it’s at,” is poor grammar but it makes the point emphatically that seed represent a significant and critical input for modern cotton production. Our efforts focus on issues of cotton seed quality, seeding rates, planting patterns, variety/technology selection, and in-season issues such as plant growth management. We also investigate agronomic management challenges relative to cotton leafroll dwarf virus. I serve as a general production management resource for others in the College exploring cotton projects.

Extension Experience

Extension

My greatest goal is to grow our presence and stature among cotton producers and related agribusiness personnel in Alabama and the Southeast, that we might be the premier resource for all things cotton. Related to that are efforts to support the development of new Regional Extension Agents that focus on Agronomic Crops and other specialists that work in cotton. I organize and publish a regular (at least monthly) newsletter Alabama Cotton Shorts with contributions from other scientists in the College. Likewise, I am a regular contributor to the Alabama Row Crops Report newsletter and Podcast. I participate regularly in grower meetings and those with related technical activities as well as field visits and distance diagnosis and consults.
