Short Bio

Dr. Michelle R. Worosz is a Professor of Rural Sociology in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology at Auburn University. She is a graduate of LEAD21 (class 15) and member of the multi-state HACTH Agriculture of the Middle. Her research focuses on agrifood system governance including both formal statutes and regulations and informal rules and habits throughout various production-consumption systems. A core project associated with her HATCH examines the capacity of non-profit organizations (501c3), as a form of alternative governance, to connect consumers to local food production. Additionally, Michelle is a Co-PI on a USDA NRCS Conservation Innovation Grant, which is focused on the adoption of climate-smart agriculture in mid- to large-scale row crop production and an NSF Growing Convergence grant focused on the adoption of climate-resilient technology in small-scale production. These projects center on the development of action science, the co-production of knowledge, and transdisciplinarity including the institutionalization of these approaches. Dr. Worosz is also actively engaged in teaching and mentoring graduate students as they navigate the complexities of food systems and rural sociology.
