Short Bio
Jessica (Jessie) Curl joined the Auburn University Water Resources Center Team in 2020 as an Extension Water Program Project Coordinator. She has a B.S. in Environmental Science from Auburn University and is currently working on her M.S in the same field of study. She is the developer and coordinator of the Alabama Private Well Program, where her duties include developing training materials and educational resources, facilitating in-person workshops across the state, and encouraging engagement with researchers and agency partners. Additional responsibilities include technical writing on the Sustainable Irrigation Adoption Project and organizing the annual Alabama Water Resources Conference.

Research
Partner with researchers across Auburn University and beyond to advance well water testing initiatives, citizen science efforts, and public health education.
Serve as a technical writer for the Sustainable Irrigation Adoption Project, preparing NEPA-compliant Watershed Plan - Environmental Assessments (HUC-8 scale) in collaboration with agencies such as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. EPA, and AL Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Extension Experience
Program Development & Outreach: Founded and coordinate the Alabama Private Well Program, a science-based educational initiative funded by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Develop training materials, peer-reviewed publications, online course modules, and interactive workshops to educate well owners, Extension professionals, and stakeholders.
Event & Conference Coordination: Lead organizer of the annual Alabama Water Resources Conference, overseeing planning, marketing, sponsorships, logistics, and post-event evaluation. Facilitate meetings and workshops with federal/state agencies, non-governmental organizations, and local communities. Plans general AUWRC Outreach Events across campus in partnership with departmental organizations.
Organized Activities
2021 - Present: Alabama Water Resources Conference & Symposium, Planning Committee Member. Planning committee member for the annual conference of over 350 attendees and lead organizer as of 2024.
2023 - Present: Auburn University Water Resources Center Research Social, Lead Planner. Organizer for campus events hosting 50 water affiliated faculty, staff, and students for networking and collaboration opportunities.
2023: Auburn University Water & Climate Symposium, Co-Chair. Interdisciplinary campus wide event of 200 attendees (undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, and external water professional stakeholders)
