Amy Wright, professor of horticulture and associate dean for instruction, was named an American Society for Horticultural Science Fellow at the society’s annual conference Sept. 23-27. ASHS is globally recognized as one of the most respected and influential professional societies for horticultural scientists.
Fellows of the society are recognized for exceptional contributions to horticulture in research, teaching, administration or extension among other impacts.
Wright’s contributions to the industry include her service as an advertiser to undergraduate and graduate students, extension horticultural research and research publications, a trademarked invention, 12 courses taught, international study tours and co-development of the Virtual Nursery Field Video Series.
Wright has received many awards and distinctions throughout her career, including recognition from Auburn University, ASHS, the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Southern Region American Society for Horticultural Science and the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture, among others.
As associate dean for instruction, Wright supervises advising, recruiting, scholarships and student career and professional development for undergraduate students in the Auburn University College of Agriculture. In addition, she facilitates faculty development and scholarship in instruction, undergraduate and graduate curricula development, academic program assessment and departmental academic program reviews.
As a professor of horticulture, she focuses her research on sustainable landscape practices, emphasizing low-impact development, green infrastructure and native plan use.
Wright has been on faculty at Auburn since 2002. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Virginia Tech University and a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University.
With thousands of members worldwide, ASHS represents scientists as well as industry professionals, extension agents, students, government and more.
Also at the ASHS 2024 conference, Sushan Ru, assistant professor of horticulture, won first place in the Early Career Competition.
