The Auburn University College of Agriculture is seeking capable and creative undergraduate students to fill positions specializing in either news media or social media. Both positions are listed below.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as an Auburn University sophomore, junior or senior in communications, journalism, agricultural communications, public relations or a related field of study
  • Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Strong writing and editing skills required
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Familiarity with a DSLR camera a plus
  • Some knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (Express, Illustrator, and/or Photoshop) a plus
  • Multimedia production skills, including photography, video and audio editing a plus.

Responsibilities (News Media Student Assistant)

  • The student assistant will report to the Communications & Marketing Specialist and managing editor of The Season magazine
  • Activities and duties related to media relations, copywriting, photography, storytelling, and the creation and completion of The Season magazine
  • Identifying and interviewing faculty, students and alumni for profiles
  • Writing stories and other related content for distribution online and in print
  • Editing other written pieces of content for accuracy, tone of voice, etc.
  • Taking photographs of various events, headshots or group shots
  • Coordination of the College of Agriculture Merch Store, which includes packing orders for pickup and shipping and assisting with product development

Responsibilities (Social Media Student Assistant)

  • The student assistant will report to the Communications & Marketing Specialist (social media and web content manager)
  • Drafting consistent digital content to promote the College of Agriculture across social media accounts and various audiences
  • Managing audience inquiries and engagement via automatization tools such as AgoraPulse, Buffer, HootSuite or SproutSocial
  • Maintaining an up-to-date social media calendar
  • Collaborating with clients, office staff and other student workers/interns on communications projects
  • Brainstorming and pitching ideas for content to the Communications & Marketing office or clients for long and short-term projects/campaigns
  • Producing live or timely content (photos, video or graphics) as posts or stories of various events as needed

Other Notes

  • Attend any applicable meetings depending on student’s availability
  • A minimum of 15 hours and maximum of 20 hours per week is required.
