Alex Calloway — Agronomy and Soils

Alex-CallawayALEX CALLOWAY

The purpose of Alex’s research is to reevaluate the micronutrient requirements of peanuts as they relate to novel cultivars and modern agronomic practices. Peanuts have unique requirements relative to other crops; they often require higher amounts of calcium, boron and manganese to ensure the success of the crop. Alabama is the third largest peanut producer in the U.S., accounting for more than $100 million in revenue annually. In order to ensure the success of their crop, many Alabama farmers rely on fertility recommendations provided through the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. This research will provide farmers with much needed data that will help them make important decisions that could ultimately lead to the success of their crop.
