Kenzley Defler — Environmental Science
Kenzley Defler is a senior majoring in environmental science with a minor in sustainability studies. Her research focuses on environmental and occupational exposures that could be contributing to an unusually large amount of cancer diagnosis in the Fruithurst community in Cleburne County, Alabama. Through community-based research and collaborative efforts with local individuals including interviews, surveys and geologic and water testing, she hopes to find answers to the recent outbreak of illnesses. She enjoys the chance to combine her academic interests with hands-on work that she truly feels is making a difference. Her favorite part has been meeting people from the community and working together toward the same goals.
