International agronomy society selects Mitchell as fellow

Auburn soil science professor Charles Mitchell has been awarded the status of fellow in the American Society of Agronomy. Fellow is the organization’s highest honor and is presented for outstanding contributions to agronomy through education, research and national and international service.

Mitchell has been on the faculty of the College of Agriculture’s Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences—formerly the Department of Agronomy and Soils—for 31 years and also has served as an extension agronomist throughout his career. His research has focused on soil testing, nutrient recommendations and land application of agricultural and industrial byproducts to enhance soil quality, and his outreach programs have helped Alabama farmers operate more profitably and become better stewards of the land.

Mitchell holds a master’s degree from Auburn and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida.
