Our Work Seminar featuring Dr. Benjamin Back, Director, USDA-Agricultural Research Service on March 21

Dr. Benjamin Beck, Fisheries and Allied Aquaculture graduate will be our next featured speaker at the Our Work Seminar on Wednesday, March 21 from 12:00 pm -12:50 pm in 207 Comer Hall.  Dr. Benjamin Beck is the Director of the USDA-ARS Aquatic Animal Health Research Unit in Auburn, Alabama. Dr. Beck completed his B.S. (2002) and M.S. (2005) degrees in Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures at Auburn University and his Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine.  Dr. Beck and his research team are currently focusing on developing affordable and effective vaccines for the catfish, shrimp, and tilapia industries, sustainable feeds that benefit growth and disease resistance, alternatives to antibiotics, and an improved understanding of the environmental factors that trigger fish kills caused by bacteria, parasites, and toxic algae.  He has authored over 75 publications in this area including numerous book chapters and popular press articles and was the recent recipient of three distinguished early career awards from the USDA, US Aquaculture Society, and the Auburn University College of Agriculture.  He enjoys spending time outdoors and with his wife Lauren and their three children Sipsey, Wheeler, and Nash.


Students, Faculty, and Staff are invited to come and learn more about his time at Auburn and what he has been up to since graduating particularly his work with the USDA.  Free lunch will be provided for the first 25 attendees.
